About James D. Newton
James D. Newton spent more than 30 years teaching in England and the United States, including working with young people in inner-city schools. He is a National Board-certified teacher and holds lifetime substitute teacher and administrator credentials in Washington State. He holds a research Master’s degree in microbiology from Cardiff University.
His scientific background contributes to the science-driven elements of his fiction, particularly the Bulldog Files. Newton’s longstanding interest in martial arts led to training in jujutsu-based systems and Kajukenbo Tum Pai, where he earned a black belt in 2009 and an instructor-level black belt in 2014. He also served in the British Army Reserves and the Army Cadet Force, attaining the rank of lieutenant.
Newton has lived in the Pacific Northwest for more than 25 years. His fiction brings together science, education, military experience, martial arts and life in the Pacific Northwest. These experiences inform his science-driven thrillers as well as his young-adult fiction about bullying, confidence and responsible self-defense.
